Fungai Guta (she/her) is a Law Clerk at Landings LLP. She graduated with honours from the Community Worker program at George Brown College (2021). She was drawn to the program’s focus on social justice, human rights, and the practical application of an anti-oppressive framework in service delivery and advocacy. Her decision to focus on Immigration and Refugee settlement work was inspired by her courses in Food Justice and Immigration & Refugee Settlement and Integration.
While at George Brown College, Fungai completed her placement at FCJ Refugee Centre working with the Settlement team. She assisted clients at various stages of their settlement process with Work Permit, Permanent Resident and Sponsorship applications. She also worked with the Women’s Program and Housing Coordinator, connecting clients with Ontario Works and other temporary assistance programs offered in-house at FCJ.
In addition to her Community Work diploma, Fungai also has an Honours B.A. in Theatre, Minor in Psychology from York University, specializing in Performance Creation. She has volunteered at the Centre for Addictions and Mental Health as a Theatre and Improv instructor for their Academic Day School Program, a Workman Arts summer workshop, and an outpatient youth summer program. She has also completed foundation coursework in Expressive Arts Therapy.
Fungai enjoys working with clients and is dedicated to bringing care and compassion as they navigate the complex and potentially overwhelming immigration and refugee process.
