Warda Shazadi MeighenB.A.H., J.D., MSc.

Warda Shazadi Meighen is a respected lawyer in Canada, acknowledged by Lexpert® for her achievements. Known for her commitment to clients, she brings a high level of service to her practice. With a graduate degree from the University of Oxford, where she specialized in refugee, migration, and international refugee law, Warda possesses a strong academic foundation.

Her practice focuses on representing clients in various refugee and immigration matters, demonstrating proficiency in both straightforward and complex cases.  Currently serving as the Vice President of the Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers and a member of the World Refugee Migration Council, Warda’s efforts for migrants and refugees extend beyond her legal practice.

Warda’s professional background includes corporate law experience at Shearman & Sterling LLP in New York, as well as contributions to prosecutions related to the Rwandan genocide at the United Nations Tribunal for Rwanda.

For the past seven years, she has shared her knowledge as an adjunct professor of refugee law at the University of Toronto. Beyond academia, Warda actively participates as an expert in Parliamentary and Senate committees, addressing crucial issues in refugee and immigration law.

Warda’s contributions also include academic writing, with publications such as “An Analysis of Post-Ezokola and JS Jurisprudence on Exclusion” and “Inadmissibility on Security-Related Grounds: a Reconsideration.”

In addition to her legal pursuits, Warda served as the Co-Editor-in-Chief for the Oxford Monitor of Forced Migration from 2015-2017, emphasizing her dedication to fostering scholarly discussions on global forced migration.

Warda is called to the bars of Ontario and New York and is proficient in English, Urdu, Hindi, and Punjabi.
